ASSESSMENT

Student assessment in physical education is based on self-assessment.  The foundation of self-assessment rests on the social responsibility concept as it raises awareness within the student regarding his or her own behavior.  The awareness of personal behavior is essential in situations that require teamwork and cooperation, but is also important for the students' personal success throughout life.  Awareness is also crucial for future success, which provides an opportunity for the student to recognize possible mistakes and correct the mistakes by themselves.  The student expectations provide guidelines for the students in regards to what is acceptable behavior and unacceptable behavior.  This is why it is important that the students understand the student expectations provided to them during the first lesson.  Students have easy access to the rules, as they are posted on the wall of the gymnasium where they have physical education.  In the case of a situation where a student receives a middle or lower score the student must display an understanding of what he or she did wrong, which is the first step toward learning how to change the negative and maybe harmful behavior in regards to teamwork and self.  Thus, self-assessment fosters personal responsibility that empowers the student and increases the students' self-efficacy.
